Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, a new iteration of its tracking device that promises improved functionality and efficiency. The SmartTag3 features a more compact design, extended tracking range, and enhanced cross-platform compatibility.
Design and Functional Enhancements
The Galaxy SmartTag3 is designed to be approximately 35% smaller and 33% lighter than its predecessor, optimizing its portability for attachment to keys, luggage, or pet collars. The device’s design includes an aluminum-decorated button for a more robust feel, with additional accessory options such as a Silicone Case and Loop Case available for purchase.
For the first time, Samsung’s SmartTag series offers cross-operating system support, making the device compatible with both Galaxy and iOS devices. This enhances the utility of the SmartTag3 within families or groups needing to track shared belongings across different platforms. Users can leverage SmartThings Find to manage and share location data efficiently.
Enhanced Tracking and Connectivity
The SmartTag3 significantly expands its utility with a notable increase in Compass View range, aiding users in locating items from up to 60 meters away, which is three times the previous capability. This is facilitated by the integration of Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies, delivering precise directional guidance.
In scenarios where the SmartTag3 moves out of direct Bluetooth range, the device utilizes the extensive Galaxy Find Network, which comprises over 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide, to update location data through participating devices.
Proactive Alerts and Privacy Measures
In addition to tracking, the SmartTag3 offers features like Place Notification, alerting users when a tagged item moves in or out of a designated area. This can be particularly useful for monitoring pets or bicycles. The device also retains features such as Location History and Movement Detection Alert to provide users with comprehensive tracking insights.
Privacy remains a priority, with location data encryption and features like NFC-powered Lost Mode and SmartThings IoT Control, which allow users to trigger specific device routines. The device retains an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, ensuring durability in various environments.
Market Availability
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 will launch in Korea on October 7, 2026, with a subsequent release in the United States and additional global markets in 2027. Available in White and Black, the SmartTag3 aims to meet diverse consumer needs with its enhanced capabilities.
