Neeraj Chopra’s mother celebrates silver medal, embraces rivalry with love

Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, expressed immense pride and joy following her son’s silver medal win in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. Despite the disappointment of not defending his gold medal, she emphasized that for their family, “silver is also equal to gold.”

In a heartwarming statement, Saroj Devi extended her admiration to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters. She affectionately remarked, “The one who got the gold is also like our son,” showcasing her sportsmanship and recognition of Nadeem’s achievement.

Neeraj’s performance was particularly commendable given the injuries he faced leading up to the Olympics. His father, Satish Kumar, acknowledged the challenges but remained proud of Neeraj’s effort, stating, “Everyone has their day. Today was Pakistan’s day. But we have won silver, and it is a proud thing for us.”

As celebrations erupted in Neeraj’s hometown, with sweets distributed and fireworks lighting up the sky, Saroj Devi looked forward to cooking her son’s favorite meal, reflecting the warmth and love of a mother celebrating her child’s accomplishments. Neeraj’s journey continues to inspire many, and his family’s support underscores the spirit of sportsmanship that transcends borders.
