AI training initiative for educators expanded to UK and Ireland
We are extending the Google AI Educator Series to the UK and Ireland, aiming to provide educators with comprehensive training in digital literacy.
Leading figures in education have emphasized that for technology to have a meaningful impact, it is crucial for school leaders and educators to drive the change. In line with this, we are offering our free Google AI Educator Series to all 650,000 educators in the UK and Ireland. This program is designed to boost educators’ confidence in utilizing AI responsibly to create engaging lesson plans, streamline administrative tasks, and adapt lessons to meet diverse student needs.
Originally launched for 6 million educators in the United States and subsequently expanded to India and Korea, the series delivers content through teacher-led virtual and in-person events. The practical curriculum, crafted by educators for educators, allows teachers to implement these lessons immediately to personalize education, safely guide students, and reclaim essential teaching time. Teachers earn micro-credentials and badges upon completing modules to demonstrate their proficiency in AI literacy.
In the UK, research by Public First indicates that nearly 74% of positions in the education sector could be enhanced by AI. The ‘AI Works for Britain’ report identifies a growth opportunity: while 15% of the UK is currently benefiting from time savings through AI, there is significant potential for broader application. The Google AI Educator Series provides teachers with similar opportunities to enhance their skills, supporting the UK government’s objective to train 10 million workers in digital skills by 2030.
We have collaborated with the National Governance Association to develop an AI Policy Toolkit, aiding school governors and trustees in safely adopting AI policies, tools, and training. This toolkit, along with the Google AI Educator Series, aligns with our mission to equip educators and school leaders with the digital literacy skills necessary for today’s classrooms.
